CO2 Laser Power Supply and Tube Compatibility Guide

A CO2 laser power supply must be correctly matched with the glass laser tube and the machine control system. Selecting a power supply only by its appearance or labeled wattage may result in weak output, unstable firing, connection problems, or damage to electrical components.

Before ordering a new or replacement power supply, check the following factors.

1. Match the Laser Tube Wattage

Start with the rated wattage of the CO2 laser tube. A 60W tube should normally be paired with a power supply designed for the corresponding power range, while higher-power tubes require a suitable high-voltage power supply.

Do not identify the tube wattage only by machine size or appearance. Check the tube label, equipment manual, or original purchase information. If the label is missing, provide clear photos and the tube dimensions for further identification.

2. Check the Operating Current

The power supply must support the operating current required by the laser tube. Excessive current can place unnecessary stress on the tube, while insufficient or unstable current may lead to weak cutting, inconsistent engraving, or unreliable operation.

The current setting should follow the tube manufacturer’s recommendations. Do not increase the current simply to obtain stronger laser output, especially when the tube condition and electrical connections have not been checked.

3. Confirm Starting Requirements

A glass CO2 laser tube requires high voltage to start the discharge. Different tube sizes and power levels may have different starting requirements.

If the power supply cannot provide suitable starting performance, the tube may fail to fire or may work intermittently. However, failure to fire does not always mean the power supply is defective. The laser tube, control signal, water-protection circuit, wiring, grounding, and machine settings should also be inspected.

4. Verify the Input Voltage

Confirm whether the machine uses AC110V or AC220V input before placing an order. Using the wrong input version may prevent normal operation and create a serious electrical risk.

Check both the old power supply label and the machine’s electrical information. Do not rely only on the voltage commonly used in the destination country, because some machines may use a transformer or a different internal power configuration.

5. Compare Control Signals and Terminals

A replacement power supply must also match the machine’s control system. Compare the terminal labels, connection arrangement, laser control signal, test function, water-protection connection, and output control method.

Two power supplies with the same wattage may not have identical terminals. Rewiring without confirming each terminal can cause incorrect operation or damage. Installation should be completed by a qualified technician with the machine disconnected from the mains supply.

Information to Provide Before Ordering

To identify a suitable CO2 laser power supply, please provide:

Laser tube wattage and label photo
Old power supply model and label photo
Input voltage
Clear photos of the control terminals
Laser machine model, if available
Description of the current fault or replacement reason

Jinan Zhenyu Electronics Co., Ltd. can review this information and  help determine whether the proposed power supply is suitable for the machine.

FAQ
Can I use a higher-wattage power supply with a lower-wattage tube?
Do not make this substitution without technical confirmation. The output current must be correctly limited for the tube.

Does a non-firing tube always indicate a faulty power supply?
No. The cause may also involve the tube, control signal, protection circuit, wiring, grounding, or machine settings.

What is the most useful information for checking compatibility?
Photos of the laser tube label, old power supply label, and terminal connections are usually the best starting point.
